School of Education

In accordance with article 6.2.2 (Notification of Courses) of the Contract Faculty Collective Agreement, applications are invited for the position of Practicum Supervisor, to be offered during the following school year: 2026-2027.

General 

The School of Education of Bishop’s University (Sherbrooke, Quebec) invites applications for Practicum Supervisors of student teachers. Practicum Supervisors support and evaluate student teachers and liaise with the school community. While most practica occur within the province of Quebec, there are some opportunities for supervision of Practicum 3 students placed in other provinces/territories. For information on expectations surrounding  practicum 3 (6-weeks) and practicum 4 (12-weeks), please consult the practicum Handbooks (hyperlinked) on our website.

The roles and responsibilities of the supervisors:

Before the practicum

  • Attendance at an orientation session
  • Initial Triad meeting

During the practicum

  • Observe and provide guidance to Student Teachers (example: classroom observation, ongoing conversations / check ins, give feedback on lesson plans etc.);
  • Complete and submit evaluations on Student Teachers to the Practice Teaching Office;
  • Liaise with the Associate Teacher, Student Teachers, and Bishop’s Practice Teaching Office to ensure a smooth practicum learning experience (example: triad meetings, competency development plan, etc);
  • Ensure the practicum experience meets the practicum requirements as laid out in the Practicum Handbook.

Tasks 

  • Mentor Student Teachers in their Practicum by sharing Formative Feedback on a regular basis;
  • Carry out at least two in-class visits;
  • Complete and submit summative evaluations to the Practice Teaching Office;
  • Participate in Orientations, Triad Meetings, online training sessions as required;
  • Liaise with the Practice Teaching Office and schools as required;
  • Follow the process for students ‘at risk’ in the practicum (example: additional Triad Meeting, ensure proper documentation);
  • Track Student Teacher substituting hours and absences.

Skills and Experience 

  • Holds a degree in Education and/or has significant field related experience;
  • Has teaching experience in the K-12 schooling system;
  • Knowledge and experience with the Quebec Education Program and/or other Canadian Education Programs;
  • Knowledge of the Quebec Professional Competencies for Teaching including Competency 15 is an asset;
  • Mentoring and/or coaching experience;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 technology (Outlook, Teams, Excel, One Drive etc.);
  • Collegial and professional;
  • Strong communicator.

Remuneration

The Education Practicum Supervisors are paid $450.07 for a full day of supervision, and $225.03 for half day of supervision. If eligible they may claim a travel allowance as per Article 21.5 of the current Collective Agreement.

  • Montreal Metropolitan Area (Montérégie, Laval, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Montréal);
  • Capitale Nationale (Quebec City area);
  • Centre du Quebec;
  • Gaspesie-îles-de-la-Madeleine (East Coast);
  • Nord-du-Quebec (Chibougameau, Sept-Îles);
  • Eeyou Istchee (Mistissini, Oujé-bougoumou, Chisasibi);
  • Toronto, Greater Toronto Area, Vancouver, Surrey, Nova Scotia.

Current Specialization Needs:

  • Elementary;
  • Secondary (ELA, Social Sciences, Science, Math);
  • Creative Arts (fine arts, music, drama);
  • ESL.

Other Consideration to Note:

  • Supervision is done in-person, in exceptional cases online supervision may be possible;
  • Attendance at Orientation is required;
  • Supervisors cannot supervise students in schools where they might take ad hoc substitute teaching work;
  • Supervisors cannot be actively employed teachers.
